Feature precast concrete wall elements with a cast-in faceted surface have been articulated as an abstract representation of the basalt cliff face present around the quarry. These elements are positioned proud and taller in contrast to more refined building elements. At night we envisage that these faceted concrete panels will be illuminated with in-ground up lighting to enhance the architecture and create security around the development.
The ridge line of the parapets and the fascia of the canopies have a white aluminium composite panel fascia as an abstract representation of the bands of Toi-Toi (a prominent natural feature along the edges of the quarry escarpment). Strips of vertical timber cladding add a warm, natural palette and connect with the white fascia, as an abstraction of the Toi-Toi stalks.
